The Disclaimer Stand-Up Lounge
If you’ve ever wanted to try stand-up comedy then this your chance to get in front of a live audience and give those jokes a test run. Our open mic is a mix of touring and local comics, and anyone with jokes to tell and looking for a group of humans to tell them to from a stage.
Where is it?
The Asheville Music Hall. 31 Patton Ave in Downtown Asheville
When Is it?
Every Wednesday. The show starts at 8:00. Doors open and sign-up starts at 7pm
Is it Free?
How Does This Open-Mic Thing Work?
Anyone can sign up.
You can sign up any time during the show.
Show ends at 10pm.
People signing up late will go towards the end unless we know they are very funny.
Everyone gets five minutes on stage.
There is a red light in front of the comic that turns on at 4 mins and that means you have one minute left.
Anyone ignoring the light and going long can and will be played off.
The order of sign up is not the order of the show. We reserve the right to order the show how we see fit
I heard you guys play favorites with the comedians
Absolutely. It’s about shaping a show to keep the audience there as long as possible so everyone has a chance to perform in front of people. If you have proven yourself to be very funny, getting funnier, or that you are really committed to working on your comedy, we will place you in better spots. If you’ve driven from out of town we’ll work to get you a good spot. If you show up having never done comedy before or have a history of doing poorly and then demand from the host to go when you want, you will be disappointed.
Can You Say Anything you Want on Stage?
Yes… and no. We feel you should be free to say whatever you want. As far as boundaries, if you push them and can handle the backlash from the audience, then go for it. Good comedy challenges and we’re not into limiting what can be said. Speak your mind. However comics that say racist, homophobic, transphobic or general demeaning and shitty things that are not part of a larger positive message and are purely said to be shocking or mean, will have their mic unapologetically cut.
